Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have been fired by Lucasfilm months into the production of the greatly anticipated young Han Solo spin-off film. Since Rogue One had its troubles (having to reshoot many scenes), this instalment of the Star Wars Stories seems to be facing similar upheaval as producer Kathleen Kennedy, as well as the co-writer and executive producer, seem to have clashed with the two young filmmakers.
Lucasfilm has released a statement saying ‘Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,’
Most notably, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller stated ‘Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,’
Unofficially, a source with knowledge of the production said, Miller and Lord were shocked by the lack of freedom they were accustomed to and ‘the chemistry between the directors and Kennedy was never right’.
In conclusion, despite this troubling news for Star Wars fans, Rogue One had similar issues and was a very successful film, both critically and commercially. Hence, I would like to assume the outcome will probably be the same for this film.
